Maria, Ernesto and Camillo, thank you for making this a trip of a lifetime and going the extra mile to make it so special.
The comfort of the Harley, the incredibly helpful crew on tour, the delicious food, the amazing accommodation and the history we learned along the way, along with the stunning beauty of Cuba…. made it the best road trip ever.

Three years ago, I toured Cuba with Che Guevara’s youngest son, Ernesto (“Che’s Kid Hits the Road”). Along with Ernesto’s closest friend, Camilo and our incomparable tour guide, Inalvis (“rhymes with Elvis”, Ina would say), five Americans and four Europeans rode new Harley Davidson motorcycles through the beautiful Cuban countryside for seven days. It was glorious. Ernesto and his team could not have been more competent and helpful nor the Cuban people more warm and welcoming. In a packed hotel bar in the beautiful city of Trinidad, I watched the first quarter of the Super Bowl (in Spanish, of course) where my beloved Patriots were trailing Atlanta 28-0. After many inquiries over the next few days, I was shocked (and elated) to learn that New England had won the game. Thank you, Ernesto and the team at Poderosa Tours. Riding a Harley across Cuba is the only “once-in-a-lifetime experience” I intend to do again someday.

Your own Motorcycle Diaries: touring Cuba with Che Guevara’s son

t’s a sunny morning in Trinidad, Cuba, and in front of a row of brightly painted colonial houses, a vintage Harley Davidson is attracting admiring glances. But a newer Harley parked behind it, outside a guesthouse, probably has a more interesting story: it belongs to Ernesto Guevara, son of revolutionary hero Che.

Ernesto runs motorbike tours of Cuba and today, before setting off for the mountains and beach, he’s having breakfast in the guesthouse courtyard with his group. Wearing a black Harley T-shirt and wristband, he looks younger than his 51 years.

He says he inherited his passion for motorbikes from his father and has loved them since he was a child. “I have had a Harley since I was 21,” he tells me. “After so many years they become part of you.”

He started La Poderosa Tours over a year ago, to share his love of Cuba and motorbikes. The name is a tribute to La Poderosa II (the name means powerful), the Norton bike on which his father and friend Alberto Granado rode for nine months across South America in 1952, a trip recorded in Che’s book The Motorcycle Diaries.

Ernesto Guevara: How my father inspired my Cuban motorcycle tours

Barba descuidada, nariz inconfundible…

I can’t say enough about my excellent experience with La Poderosa! From the moment that I was greeted exiting the plane, every possible need was attended to. Maria, in the office, Ernesto, Camillo and Jan as our dailey guides in our little Harley caravan were all focused on making our experience everything that was promised and more. Ina was our historian, interpreter and facilitator who helped make the tour informative and culturally rich. Our evenings were terrific social events enjoyed with Ernesto and Camillo. Great lodgings at terrific hotels, excellent meals, the mountains, the beaches; trip of a lifetime. DO IT!!

The best possible way to see Cuba!!!!
TheTour is fantasticaly organised. With a great choice of modern Harley’s to choose from, all in perfect condition. Ernesto and Camilo did a wonderful job of leading us through the varied terrain of Cuba…as well as entertaining us at the stops and in the evenings. Ina, our amazing little cultural guide, had a thorough knowledge to impart on all of Cubam life.
The mix of long rides, cultural breaks, and time on the beach was just right! If you want to see Cuba, and can ride a motorcycle, this is the Tour for You!

After a long time I wanted to do a motorcycle tour again in latin america. I was choosing between two different tours (the Enduro-Tour in colombia or the Harley-Tour on Cuba). Finally I took the La Poderosa-Tour on Cuba, because of the good comments.
Before my anticipation was big and I was so excited, but all that got overshooted!
The perfectly organization, the nice team and the other travelers with amazing personalities made the tour with Nestor and Camilo to an unforgettable and fantastic experience where I made some new friends!
All the Harleys are in the best condition and were verified and cleaned after every daily trip.
Also the food and the accommodations were well selected!
Personally I preferred the smaller hotels like Rancho San Vincente“ in Vinales, Pinar del Rio and „Lola“ in Trinidad more, than the bigger ones because of the individuality and the extraordinarily good service!

You have to do this tour! You can’t get to know Cuba better in nine days!
Thanks to Ina, Yanmaes and Maria-Elena!
Hoping to see you again!

After having spend a couple of days with Ernesto and Camillo, I can only give them my highest recommendation. Riding with those guys was an absolute blast. They were fun, charming, but also experienced drivers, that one would always feel safe around. Its a completely different way of experiencing Cuba. You gotta try it at least once in your life….
